  1. 2COL is a compressed print utility that will print 4  (or even 8 pages) on one
  2. side of a sheet of paper in 2 column format. It is intended for dot matrix
  3. printers. Make sure your internal printer switches are set for Epson/Standard
  4. mode, not IBM mode. If you have a front panel pitch selector on your printer, it
  5. must be set to Program mode. If you are not sure about the front panel settings
  6. turn your printer off and then on immediately before running 2COL. This should
  7. reset the printer to program mode.

  10. PRINTING THE MANUAL:

  12. To print the manual  on a 9-pin printer using 2col, type:

  15. If your 9-pin printer cannot print 20 characters/inch, type:

  51. Option (-Y) to customize default settings. Eliminates the need to enter
  52. command line options every time you run the program. Eliminates the need for
  53. batch files.

  55. Option (-?) causes 2COL to ask for filenames to print. Useful when 2COL is run
  56. from a menu or an icon. Filenames can still be entered on the command line as
  57. well.

  59. Changed the standard default setting (-F) for the top margin from 4 lines to 0.
  60. This is a result of feedback on how most people are setting up their printers.

  62. Modified the (-O) option, which prints odd pages only, to ask whether the user
  63. wants to print even pages next. This allows for printing both sides without
  64. rerunning the program.

  66. A "press any key to continue" message now appears whenever 2COL displays a
  67. message at exit. This makes it possible to read error messages when run from an
  68. icon or a menu program. Under these conditions the message would disappear
  69. before it could be read.

  71. Registration codes are now individualized. This means that currently registered
  72. users must upgrade to use this new version of 2COL. This is the first time an
  73. upgrade fee has ever been required for 2COL. See registration in 2COL.DOC.

  75. The DOS printer timeout interval is now  decreased while 2COL is running.
  76. Some people have commented that their system appears to hang sometimes while
  77. running 2COL. This is due to the long timeout delay DOS uses for the printer
  78. before printing an error message. If a shorter timeout causes any problems, I
  79. would appreciate hearing from you. It is good practice to make sure your printer
  80. is on-line before running 2COL.

  134. Registered users can now direct output to a file instead of the
  135. printer. The file can then be used for printing in background while
  136. running other programs. This option can also be used to redirect output
  137. to LPT2, COM1, COM2, etc.

  147. JETCOL -  A laserjet version of 2col.Has eight specially designed soft
  148. fonts. The optimum sized font is automatically selected according to the
  149. degree of compression desired. This gives the effect of having continuously
  150. scaled fonts. Prints up to 10 pages on one side of a sheet of paper.
